University of Iowa held the inaugural UI Center for Intellectual Freedom event Saturday at the Old Capitol with Gov. Kim Reynolds, legislators, and regents in attendance.
The center, commissioned by the Legislature, was designed to protect free academic thought and encourage respectful debate + guide future educational reform.
Iowa nursing advocates expressed concerns over a proposed change to the Department of Education's professional degree definition that excluded nursing, which they said would lower enrollment and limit loan access, worsening local shortages.
The department may revise the proposal after receiving public input.
