Johnson County will honor Dr. Lulu Merle Johnson—the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D in Iowa—by installing a seven-foot bronze statue at the county administration building.
Historian Rebecca Conard said the project includes a plaza with benches and interpretive panels and will be dedicated this spring with a public event in May or June.
Iowa City Downtown District announced that Twilights, a new public art lighting installation, now illuminates the Graduate Walkway in a partnership with the City, local artist Hannah Givler and other design teams.
The public can join an opening reception on Friday, November 21 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. + meet the project partners.
The Alzheimer's Association reported that caregivers provided 19 billion hours of unpaid care as National Family Caregivers Month shines a light on those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s — the organization shared holiday support tips to help ease the burden on caregivers.
