- ➤ Jim Slosiarek of The Gazette photographed the northern lights over rural Benton County and near the Old Stone Church in Ridgeway on Tuesday and Wednesday nights after a strong solar flare triggered a severe storm watch from NOAA—making the auroras visible as far south as Kansas and Texas. - ➤ Iowa City landlords can earn up to $2,000 for housing families as the Iowa City Housing Authority launches its Mainstream Voucher program to help 19 households secure long-term homes in Johnson County—landlords receive $1,000 for leasing to adults and $2,000 for leasing to families with children while funding lasts. The program is run in partnership with Shelter House. KCRG
- ➤ The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced that SNAP cards were reloaded for recipients beginning Thursday and all benefits were provided by today—easing pressure on food banks that have seen record demand since November. Advocates now call for state improvements to the SNAP system and for expanded support programs to help families in need. WHO 13

- ➤ University of Iowa Health Care updated its photo ID badge policy to let nurses and staff use only their first name and last initial — a change made after many workers raised privacy concerns.
