Washington St. in Iowa City—14 musicians from Chicago and Guadalajara will play fresh sounds that mix mariachi with jazz as they work on a follow-up to their 2022 album Heredoros.
Iowa City voters elected newcomer Jennifer Horn-Frasier along with incumbents Ruthina Malone and Jayne Finch to the school board in a five-person race on Nov.
4th (Finch was the top vote-getter). Malone will continue as board president and all winners will be sworn in at the Dec. 9th meeting (the board recently approved a $104.6 million facility master plan amid shifts in education policy).
Clear Creek Amana School District elected newcomer Casey Cooney with 607 votes — 60.4% — over Rick Hergert, and incumbent Nicholas Pfeiffer kept his seat with 943 uncontested votes.
Cooney plans to support staff and resources as public education faces changes due to ESAs while Pfeiffer focuses on maintaining district stability amid enrollment shifts and state cuts.
