- ➤ NextEra Energy and Google announced a partnership to reopen the Duane Arnold Energy Center by early 2029 to power Google’s AI and cloud data centers, with most output supplying Google and a small share for local consumers. Officials said the project will create up to 1,600 refurbishment jobs and 400 high-paying local jobs—boosting economic growth—and plans to buy out existing stakes will begin once federal approval is secured. - ➤ Organ Fairchild, the instrumental three-piece band, will perform at Gabe's in Iowa City at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30—tickets cost $12 and special guest Shining Realm will join the show. - ➤ Iowa food banks and SNAP recipients face uncertain benefits—if the shutdown continues, SNAP benefits may lapse on November 1. Local pork producers donated thousands of pounds of pork to food banks and Congresswoman Miller-Meeks is working to pass a bill to keep SNAP running. KCRG
