- ➤ BYU fans in Johnston plan a charity tailgate—called Party for a Purpose—before Saturday's Iowa State versus BYU game. The local BYU alumni group teamed with Johnston Partnership to collect coats, shoes and blankets to help families as colder weather nears. WHO 13

- ➤ Iowa City’s Riverside Theatre will present the Tony-winning comedy Eureka Day starting Oct. 24, a play set against a mumps outbreak that sparks a debate over vaccination—attendees can join a free Public Health Community Panel Talkback after the Saturday, Oct. 25 show. The Gazette
- ➤ Musician Mike Silverman, known as That 1 Guy, will perform live at Gabe's in Iowa City at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 — he uses a 7-foot homemade Magic Pipe to create his quirky electro-funk sound. Fans can expect a unique one-man band experience. The Gazette

- ➤ Iowa City and the Board of Regents reached an agreement to preserve the Sanxay-Gilmore house, one of the city’s oldest homes built in the mid-1800s. The deal removes local preservation rules on the Cannon-Gay house in exchange for keeping Sanxay-Gilmore at its current location and exploring future use options. The Gazette

- ➤ In Iowa, doctors said breast cancer cases in women under 40 are rising—with between 90 and 100 expected this year. They warned that exposure to farm chemicals and binge drinking may drive the increase—and urged a healthy diet and regular weight management to lower risk. We Are Iowa

- ➤ Angler George Thompson caught a record 105-pound blue catfish after a 35-minute battle on the Iowa side of the Missouri River. Officials believe the fish was over 20 years old and noted that blue catfish usually weigh only 20 to 25 pounds — the large fish was kept in a live well for record certification before being released.
