The Iowa Department of Revenue said Jam Equities—owned by Asif Poonja, operator of at least seven Popeyes restaurants—owes nearly $1 million in overdue sales taxes dating back to 2022 after Popeyes revoked its brand license; the state has begun garnishing payments from stores in Altoona, Cedar Rapids, Coralville and Waterloo while Poonja has not responded to the lawsuits.
