- ➤ Turning Point USA's Iowa chapter held a candlelight vigil on Sept15 at the University of Iowa campus to remember founder Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot last week—mourners gathered to sing, pray and light candles in his memory. Iowa City Press-Citizen
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Farmers started early corn harvest today as the USDA projects record yields. Dry conditions and disease have cut yields by about 20 bushels on average — challenges that may raise input costs for local growers. We Are Iowa
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School is back in session and the Iowa City Press-Citizen is running its Student of the Week poll; votes on nominees from local high schools can be cast online through noon on Sept 18—the winner will be announced on Sept 19. Iowa City Press-Citizen
- ➤ Iowa's three public universities released fall enrollment numbers today. Iowa State saw its enrollment rise by nearly 700 students and the University of Iowa added about 800 while Northern Iowa dropped 79 students but maintained over 9,200 enrolled—UNI welcomed its 150th freshman class with 1,549 new students, 804 transfers and a nearly 50% increase in graduate enrollment from three years ago.
