- ➤ The Great Plains Action Society will create a community hub on Maiden Lane near Riverfront Crossings in Iowa City using renovated buildings for kitchens, meeting rooms, classrooms and an urban garden — the nonprofit awaits finalizing the sale and rezoning approvals before it opens the space for community programs. - ➤ On Wednesday, September 10, Shelter House sent a letter telling those living in a tent encampment on its property to move because all tents must be removed before the upcoming inspection to keep its 70-bed emergency shelter open—so far, five people have been moved indoors as openings became available. The letter explained that the encampment began in March when the Winter Shelter closed and noted that an August 15 incident prompted the need for this change. KCRG
