- ➤ Shelter House posted signs on Monday telling the homeless encampment near its emergency shelter to clear out by 5:00 p.m. on Friday ahead of the scheduled inspection—this step aims to prevent the 70-bed facility from being shut down while outreach workers help connect affected residents to services. - ➤ The Iowa City Police Department arrested 58 year old Cindy Sue Elder in a 1992 cold case after new DNA advances identified her as the mother who admitted placing her newborn in a trash receptacle—police said. KWWL
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Iowa DNR officials reported that pheasant numbers reached a 20-year high with a 43% increase over last year, promising a good season for beginner hunters. New hunters will need licenses, safety certificates, and to wear at least 50% orange—rules that will be enforced when the season begins on October 25 and runs until January 10. WHO 13
