- ➤ Iowa City is launching Project Cleanup—a volunteer program that lets residents pick up free cleanup kits from the Public Library, City Hall, the Senior Center and Mercer Park Aquatic Center to clear litter from public spaces. Volunteers are advised to get permission before cleaning private property and to leave filled bags next to waste bins on regular collection days. KWWL

- ➤ After more than three months without a jackpot winner, the $1.78B Powerball jackpot was claimed Saturday night by tickets bought in Missouri and Texas while Iowa players won over $560K in prizes, including three $50,000 wins from Circle K, Maverik and Jimmy D’s. Iowa Lottery players claimed 78,980 prizes and spent over $4.76M on tickets—money that helps support state programs. We Are Iowa
- ➤ Two Iowa Lottery tickets sold at a Circle K on 421 N. Main St. in Burlington and at a Maverik on 2600 Holiday Road in Coralville were each one digit short of a nearly $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot on Sept. 6 and earned $50,000 each. Iowa players spent more than $4.76 million on tickets and won prizes totaling $560,634 — marking a strong local impact — while the jackpot was claimed by winners outside Iowa. Iowa City Press-Citizen

- ➤ Iowa City Community School District will add five new outdoor classrooms this year—these spaces are designed with natural features and student-built elements such as shade shelters and easels. Linn County is also collecting feedback and original photos for its website redesign, with survey responses due by Sept. 17 and photo submissions by Sept. 29. The Gazette
- ➤ Former State Representative Joe Mitchell announced his candidacy for Congress in Iowa’s District 2 to succeed Ashley Hinson on September 8th. He founded Run Gen Z to help young conservatives run for office and owns a real estate company that develops housing in rural communities — his bid aims to bring his local government and business experience to the national stage. - ➤ Six candidates will vie for three open council seats in the Iowa City election on Tuesday, Nov. 4—four running for at-large seats and two challenging for District B.
