EDUCATION NEWS

  • Drake University and Simpson College are expanding full-tuition scholarship programs for Iowa high school students, with Drake lowering its Bulldog Promise GPA requirement to 3.5 for fall 2026 and Simpson expanding its High School Promise to include Iowa City and Cedar Rapids students—both moves aim to reduce financial barriers for future enrollees.  We Are Iowa

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Johnson County’s new supervisor districts will be drawn by the state’s Legislative Services Agency using a worksheet based on the 2020 census, with each district aiming to have about 30,600 residents. The new law means all five county board members will run in 2026+ Iowa City might be represented in two or more districts.  Iowa City Press-Citizen

  • Cyclones punter Tyler Perkins, a senior, is raising funds for the Food Bank of Iowa by donating $2 per yard he averages and extra for longer punts—local partners are matching his contributions to help reach a $5,000 goal, and he plans to add more donations as his team faces the Hawkeyes today.  WHO 13
  • Today, the University of Iowa ROTC is running the nearly 30-year-old Game Ball Run to meet Iowa State ROTC in Tama, roughly halfway between Iowa City and Ames, to boost excitement ahead of the heated Cy-Hawk Showdown football game. The runners will stop at schools and local hotspots along their route—continuing a tradition that has energized the local community for decades.  KCRG
