Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 29th of August.
Good morning, Iowa City.
A 187-unit affordable housing complex is proposed at the former Roosevelt Elementary site at 611 Greenwood Dr., nearly four years after the school district sold the 9.9-acre property to TWG Developments.
The project will include income-restricted one- to three-bedroom units, an interior courtyard and a dog park (with added screening on the east side), and the Iowa City Council will review the rezoning request on Sept. 2.
Iowa State officials warned fans to beware of fake tickets before Saturday’s home opener at Jack Trice Stadium as the Cyclones host South Dakota, urging buyers to use only Ticketmaster resale—police chief Michael Newton said one scam was tracked from a single account last year.
Iowa City’s Hawkeyes will also start their season at Kinnick Stadium at 5 p.m. with a new mobile ticket system available for tap-to-enter access.
