- ➤ At a recent Save Our VA rally, organizers decried VA hiring freezes + stressed the value of VA medical campuses nationwide. Iowa City Press-Citizen
- ➤ Coralville is moving ahead with plans to build a new recreation center east of the current facility in ST Morrison Park and will fund the project with bonds repaid by property taxes plus a local-option sales tax if voters approve it in November. The city is starting the construction manager at risk process and will keep the old center open until the new one is complete—proposals are expected by mid November. The Gazette
- ➤ Nearly 100 community members gathered outside the Iowa City VA Medical Center on Aug 27 to protest staffing cuts and union limits—urging the VA to end a hiring freeze that has left the campus 200 workers short since January.
