🏘️ Community
A barbed-wire fence along a sidewalk next to Lucas Elementary was removed after city staff determined it was a safety hazard for children.
The fence, located at Muscatine Avenue and Southlawn Drive, was taken down Tuesday afternoon.
🎓 Education
The Iowa City School Board is meeting tonight to decide on filling the vacant seat after director Jayne Finch resigned last week (her term was set to end in 2029).
The board remains committed to supporting strong education for all students.
🏛️ Government
Construction on the Iowa River Trail Bridge replacement near Benton Street will extend into 2027 after high river levels and wet weather delayed work (city staff and the contractor are assessing next steps).
The affected section of the trail remains closed with a detour provided.
🏈 Sports
The Iowa Hawkeyes' home opener against Northern Illinois on Sept.
5 is sold out + it extends a 28-game sellout streak that began in 2022. The next three home games are also sold out, while tickets remain available for the final three contests.
