A survey by the University of Iowa found that 74% of Johnson County residents supported a bond referendum for a new jail after learning that the current facility is overcrowded and unsafe — issues that many say need urgent attention.
Sheriff Brad Kunkel explained that increased public awareness has shifted opinions, and the county board plans to put the referendum on the ballot in November.
Harper Atkinson from Wapello has been named Kid Captain for the Hawkeye football season and will take the field for the Iowa vs. Oregon game on Nov.
