- ➤ Domestic Violence Intervention Program will use $2.4 million from HOME-ARP funds to build six townhomes on Iowa City's east side for families fleeing domestic violence—construction will begin in November and the city will provide free land valued at $270,000 under a 20-year affordability agreement to have the homes operational by 2027. - ➤ A Coralville woman named Ashley Crystal Wachs pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl from Seattle and was sentenced to six years in federal prison (officers seized over 250 grams of fentanyl, 109.58 grams of flurofentanyl, and 71.96 grams of ice methamphetamine from her car during a September 4 traffic stop). - ➤ Iowa City Council unanimously approved a resolution to put a 1% local-option sales tax on the November ballot, and if a simple majority votes yes the tax will take effect July 1—50% of its revenue will go toward property tax relief while the rest supports affordable housing, public infrastructure, and community partnerships.
