Wilson’s Orchard now grows nine crops instead of apples as part of a switch to polyculture farming in Johnson County north of Iowa City — a change aimed at reducing crop failure risks — and the owner plans to expand crop offerings.

The Iowa Drought Monitor report showed nearly half the state, about 46% (22% moderate and 24% abnormal dryness), experienced increased drought conditions by July 28 after nearly two weeks of heat and little rain.

The Iowa Department of Health has confirmed 226 cyclosporiasis cases across 48 counties so far this year, up sharply from 69 last year.
