- ➤ A state audit at the University of Iowa revealed nearly $300,000 in research spending by Dr. Calvin Carter that lacked proper documentation—auditor Rob Sand confirmed the funds were used only for research. - ➤ Iowa City's Climate Action and Outreach division and the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County are asking volunteers to record bicycle travel patterns at key intersections; volunteers will receive training and work shifts from 7 to 9 a.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 9, 10, and 11—if it rains, shifts will be rescheduled to the following week. - ➤ The Coralville City Council approved an agreement to extend Forevergreen Road east from North Central Junior High to Naples Avenue over 1.25 miles, with the first phase costing about $2.5 million and set to begin next year—some funds coming from a federal Community Project Funding grant and cost shared with North Liberty. - ➤ Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird started an investigation into the University of Iowa after an undercover video showed a university employee saying she still used DEI principles under the guise of civic engagement—state law bans such programming, and the Board of Regents will hold a special meeting next month to review compliance.
