Washington St. in Iowa City will use a nearly funded $9,000 Kiva Iowa loan to buy new kitchen equipment and expand its food offerings + the bar will soon install sound panels to fix high noise for community meetings and serve small food bites as part of its seasonal menu.

Iowa City met its 45% greenhouse gas reduction goal 10 years early in 2020 and now is expanding its Climate Action programs by partnering with city departments and local groups—such as those launching resilience hubs and home energy audits—to further reduce emissions.

Local public health officials report a rise in delivery-only restaurants operating without proper licenses in Linn and Jones counties, with many using cloud kitchen models or residential spaces that lack proper inspections.

They warn that such businesses put customers at risk and may face legal action if they do not comply with safety regulations—prompting calls for stronger enforcement.
