- ➤ Iowa City police have placed 12 Walk Your Wheels markings at downtown intersections to enforce a rule that bans riding bicycles, e-scooters, skateboards, and mopeds on sidewalks but permits using bike lanes and streets—violators will face a $15 fine with exemptions for wheelchairs. KWWL
- ➤ An analysis from the Iowa Hunger Coalition said that Iowa will lose at least $1 billion in SNAP funding over the next decade due to cuts in work reporting rules and benefit reductions under the Big Beautiful Bill signed on July 4. The changes will affect roughly 270,000 SNAP recipients and may lower grocery spending and add state cost-sharing in upcoming fiscal years — increasing pressure on local programs. We Are Iowa
- ➤ Today, the U.S. Department of Labor filed a lawsuit against Mexico Lindo Grill & Cantina for allegedly paying at least 25 workers less than the minimum wage and not keeping proper time records from August 2022 to August 2024. - ➤ Johnson County Public Health will install five vending machines and two lockboxes in Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty next month using opioid settlement funds and public health grants.
