CRIME NEWS

  • An Iowa City teen, now 19, pleaded Wednesday to lesser charges after stabbing three people during a fight outside Bardot on May 6, 2023—he faces up to two years in prison per charge and his defense will ask for probation with a deferred judgment.  The Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Iowa Department of Physics and Astronomy hosted a TRACERS mission launch watch party at Van Allen Hall on July 23, after the launch was postponed from the previous day at the last minute.  Iowa City Press-Citizen
  • Lynette Marshall will retire as president and CEO of the UI Center for Advancement in summer 2026 after a 20-year run — she merged key university offices and led fundraising campaigns that raised nearly $2 billion — and she will continue in her role until then at the Levitt Center in Iowa City.  Iowa City Press-Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge denied the government request to narrow a preliminary injunction that protects four UI international students from deportation after their visas were revoked following criminal convictions. Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger said the decision does not overly restrict law enforcement actions—keeping the injunction in place until a final ruling is issued.  Iowa City Press-Citizen

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nash Keen was born at 21 weeks on July 5, 2024, and he spent six months in the NICU at University of Iowa Health Care where he underwent multiple surgeries and tests. Shortly after his first birthday he was named the Guinness World Records titleholder for the most premature baby and his doctors say he has made strong progress—his family hopes he grows happy and strong when he starts kindergarten.  We Are Iowa
