- ➤ Iowa City Council plans to put a 1 percent local-option sales tax on the general election ballot this fall so that 50% of the revenue helps with property tax relief while the rest funds affordable housing, public infrastructure, and community partnerships—council members will vote on a formal resolution in August to finalize the proposal for the November ballot with the tax set to take effect on July 1.
