- ➤ Farmers for Free Trade hosted a tariff town hall on Tuesday, June 17 at Cedar Ridge Distillery in Swisher where panelists from Kinze Manufacturing, Iowa State University, the Iowa Soybean Association, and Corridor Media Group discussed tariff impacts on local trade and agriculture — offering insights on current challenges for farmers. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Liberty City Council is considering a local option sales tax for the November ballot—50% of the revenue will fund property tax relief and the rest support council-chosen projects such as housing—while city staff projects the measure could generate up to $1.97 million annually if Iowa City joins. Council staff will refine the measure further and submit the ballot language by Sept. 19. Iowa City Press-Citizen
- ➤ The Iowa House got 70 signatures to call for a special session to try to override Gov. Kim Reynolds’ veto of a bill that would limit eminent domain for projects like carbon capture pipelines and more.
