GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Johnson County will host two public input sessions on June 26 to discuss housing issues in rural areas with CommunityScale leading discussions. The first session runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at The Midnight Gem in Swisher and the second from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hills Community Center in Hills — printed materials will be available in multiple languages. - ➤ Iowa City Council approved new yard waste disposal fees on May 20 to support sustainable waste management. Starting July 1, residents will pay $2 per sticker for curbside collection — fees at the Landfill and Recycling Center will be $5 for organic drop-offs up to 400 pounds and $24 per ton for heavier loads. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Iowa has recorded three measles cases in 2025 with two occurring in June, marking the first cases since 2019. Iowa HHS will update the public every Thursday at noon using its website and will issue a press release when a case poses a public risk — they will also notify close contacts as needed.
