Over the Flag Day weekend, the Veterans Flagpole Initiative is installing flagpoles for two dozen Vietnam veterans in Eastern Iowa to honor their service.
One flagpole was installed in Solon in memory of John Scott, a veteran who passed away last month — his family said the flag will remind them of his legacy as the group works to place poles in all 99 counties by 2028.
🏛️ Government
On June 14, hundreds marched along Iowa Avenue and downtown for the 'No Kings' protest that joined similar gatherings nationwide.
Local leaders and activists — including Iowa Sen. Janice Weiner and City Council member Oliver Weilein — addressed the crowd and called for change.
