University of Iowa students must complete a three-credit American history course and a three-credit American government course at the Center for Intellectual Freedom to earn their degrees, as required by Gov. Kim Reynolds' law signed on June 5, with courses beginning in the 2028—29 school year.

The Iowa Supreme Court blocked the University of Iowa from shifting a scholarship fund for Black physical sciences students to support first-generation students.

The case returns to district court to ensure the donor's intent (set by Ezra Totten in 1997) is fulfilled.
