  • Jewish community leaders in Iowa are on high alert after over 10,000 antisemitic incidents were reported nationwide, including shootings in D.C. and an attack in Boulder, and they have increased security at local events while working with state officials to improve law enforcement training (one victim’s grandparent lives in Des Moines).  WHO 13

CRIME NEWS

  • Kevin Grimm, a 56-year-old Tiffin man working as a contractor at the University of Iowa Hospital North Liberty Campus, was arrested on charges of first-degree theft for stealing and reselling $60,000 worth of construction and medical equipment from the site—he appeared in court on Wednesday and was released without bond.  The Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday’s work session, Iowa City City Council discussed plans to ask voters to approve a 1% Local Option Sales Tax that would generate $8 to $10 million for property tax relief, street improvements, housing and community partnerships—if the Council adopts a resolution by August 19 and 50% of voters approve the measure on the November ballot, the tax will go into effect on July 1, 2026.  KCRG
