The Iowa City Community School District Board accepted Superintendent Matt Degner’s resignation Tuesday night; he will step down effective June 30 and begin his new role as Executive Director of Secondary Schools on July 1.

Two board members raised concerns over the transition terms.

University of Iowa now requires students complete courses at the new Center for Intellectual Freedom to graduate, with the mandate set to begin in July 2028—state lawmakers adopted the rule after low initial enrollment emerged at the Iowa City campus.
