ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Iowa City Fire Department responded Tuesday at (6:48 a.m.) to a utility pole fire at the corner of Dubuque and Lafayette St caused when a squirrel contacted live wires, and crews disconnected the pole before putting out the fire in two minutes. KCRG
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Big Grove Brewery became Iowa’s largest craft brewery by volume and ranked 61st nationally based on Brewers Association data. The brewery opened its 68,000-barrel Liberty Plant in Iowa City in 2024 and saw double-digit growth with Easy Eddy Hazy IPA and expanding taprooms nationwide. KWWL

- ➤ The Presidential Fitness Test returns to Iowa schools for students aged 6-17 after Gov. Reynolds signed the MAHA bill last week. The test requires students to complete core, upper body and cardio exercises and will run for two years. We Are Iowa
- ➤ The Iowa City School Board will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. to search for an interim superintendent after Matt Degner stepped down to care for his terminally ill mother — he will begin serving as Executive Director of Secondary Schools on July 1 as the district addresses a financial crisis. KCRG
- ➤ The Iowa City School Board voted Tuesday night (4-2) to allow superintendent Matt Degner to leave his contract early and become executive director for secondary schools to care for his terminally ill mother amid concerns over a $19 million special education deficit. KCRG

- ➤ Gov. Reynolds signed legislation on Tuesday at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital creating a 5-cent tax on vape products to fund pediatric cancer research and clinical trials. The new law is expected to strengthen local research and reduce the need for out-of-state treatment. KCRG
