Iowa City man Kesean Ford pleaded guilty to Homicide by Vehicle — Excessive Speed in a 2023 drag racing crash that killed Jennifer Russell and was sentenced to up to ten years in prison while a co-defendant received probation with a suspended sentence.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen announced four Solon High School nominees for Student of the Year as part of its Student of the Week contest; the poll will close at noon on May 29 (nominees include Brady Evers, Brianna Henning, Grace Hoeper, and Lucianna Miller).

Regina Catholic High School announced nominees for the Press-Citizen's Student of the Year poll — the list includes 10 Student of the Week winners like senior Will Aitchison and junior Caitlyn Bell.

At the end of the academic year, the Press-Citizen is honoring West High students with a Student of the Year poll that will close at noon on May 29.
