  • ➤ The Iowa City Downtown District, in partnership with The Englert Theatre and local businesses, announced the free Northside Saturday Nights outdoor concert series will begin tomorrow—May 3 and run through September 27 on select Saturdays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The series features live performances by local and regional musicians, starting with the Tanya English Band, and supports local restaurants and retailers downtown.  Downtown Iowa City

EDUCATION NEWS

  • ➤ Iowa Workforce Development announced $3.4 million to support registered apprenticeship programs statewide — the funds will help more than 5,000 apprentices earn while they learn as training centers like Cedar Rapids Electrical Training Center expand their space to meet growing enrollment.  KCRG

HEALTH NEWS

  • ➤ GuideLink Center in Iowa City reshapes the community's response to addiction and mental illness by offering 24/7 walk-in care for adults in crisis—providing an alternative to jail and hospitalization. Since it opened in February 2021, the center has had nearly 8,000 encounters and helped more than 6,000 people access needed care.  KCRG
