  • The YMCA Supportive Housing Campus provides permanent housing and services for 140 residents and will host the Crane 5k on May 3rd to raise funds for its support programs—spots are limited. CRIME NEWS

  • A man fleeing an Iowa State Patrol officer crashed with another vehicle at the intersection of Governor Street & Market Street in Iowa City on April 22 at 12:37 p.m. when his car struck a utility pole, ignited, and injured both drivers.  KCRG
  • Antavus Watson, 44, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Elijah Williams late March on South Gilbert Street—he also faces charges of attempted murder and firearm possession by a felon, with a case conference set for May 16 and a trial planned for July 8.  Iowa City Press-Citizen

CULTURE NEWS

  • Eastern Iowa is set for a busy summer season with events starting May 1, including Tulip Time in Pella that features Dutch heritage, fireworks and parades. The guide lists many festivals and fairs—such as Freedom FEASTival in Cedar Rapids, Chalk the Walk in Mount Vernon, and more—that offer food, music and family activities through early July.  The Gazette
