- ➤ Officials said Thursday night’s storm damage in Iowa City came from straight-line winds—not a tornado—notably knocking down trees and cutting power to over 3,500 residents near Riverside Dr. and Gleason Ave. The National Weather Service recorded gusts over 60 MPH. Iowa City Press-Citizen
- ➤ Recent rains eased drought in Iowa as the latest map released April 23 shows 87% of the state has no drought and 17% has drought, mostly in the northwest, southwest and southeast. Des Moines recorded 6 inches of rain in April — well above normal. Iowa City Press-Citizen
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UI Health Care seeks approval for a $24M expansion of its North Liberty hospital campus—adding four operating rooms and 12 exam rooms due to rising patient demand. Construction will begin in the fall with a second phase planned for winter. Iowa City Press-Citizen
