CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Asante Walker-Garcia Adams, 27, from North Liberty was sentenced to 50 more years in prison for sexual assault, burglary and robbery in Iowa City and had already received a 100-year sentence in another county. Iowa City Press-Citizen
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Board of Regents this week approved a new policy that limits annual tuition increases for in-state students to the average of the three most recent Higher Education Price Indexes and will propose specific rates for ISU, UI and UNI next fall. The board also set a rule for public online posting of undergraduate course syllabi by fall 2026—aiming to boost access to course details. The Gazette
- ➤ Iowa State and University of Iowa students from the Coalition for University Equity gathered on April 23 at the Iowa State Alumni Center to address the Board of Regents about the planned removal of DEI offices, jobs and programs under Senate File 2435—afterwards, they held a protest outside the building. - ➤ Coralville City Council will consider tax incentives in May for the renovation of the former Iowa River Power Restaurant at 501 First Ave, which has been closed since November 2023. - ➤ The University of Iowa received Board of Regents approval to raze its outdated Center for Disabilities and Development at 100 Hawkins Dr. and will relocate it to a 58,000-square-foot building at 2610 Northgate Dr.—demolition will begin in late 2026 while renovations costing $35 to $40 million will modernize the facility for patient care, research, and training.
