COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Renderings show Coralville's $54 million recreation center (over 100,000 sqft) will have indoor pools, basketball courts, and an indoor track. Leaders plan for groundbreaking this summer or fall with an opening set for fall 2028, funded by a local sales tax and a $14 million commitment from Iowa City Schools.  KCRG
  • Skywatchers in Iowa City can see the Lyrids meteor shower this week (April 14 to April 30) as it peaks from April 21-22 over dark, rural skies away from city lights. The streaks of light are caused by debris from a passing comet.  Iowa City Press-Citizen
  • Eastern Iowa cattlemen have sent over 200 supplement tubs to help Nebraska ranchers cope with wildfires and drought in the Sandhills. The donation can support up to 2,000 cattle for about a month.  We Are Iowa
  • Coralville held an open house yesterday at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, where residents previewed plans for a new rec center featuring an indoor track + workout equipment + pool. The project will replace an outdated facility and feature groundbreaking in summer or fall, funded by a local sales tax.  KCRG

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In January, Johnson County buyers and sellers saw the median home price drop 20% to $300,000 from December’s $375,000 + recorded home sales fell from 137 to 117 compared to January last year. Realtor.com data show declines in both single-family and condo/townhome prices.  Iowa City Press-Citizen

SPORTS NEWS

  • The NCAA vacated four wins after Iowa’s staff contacted a transfer player and his father before he entered the transfer portal. Coach Kirk Ferentz said the panel’s decision is too harsh — the program now faces a $25,000 fine, one-year probation and recruiting restrictions.  KWWL
