- ➤ The Johnson County Board of Supervisors and the Iowa City Council are studying a joint law enforcement facility — to house a new county jail, sheriff’s office and police department because both current spaces are aging and overcrowded. Two architectural firms are working on the plan and the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee will propose a bond issue to voters in November 2026 — while starting a public campaign to build support.
