- ➤ The Iowa House passed a bill that increases fines for breaking open meeting laws after a collapse in Davenport nearly 2 years ago led to deaths and amputations. House Rep. Gary Mohr said the fines will go from $500 to $2,500 and from $2,500 to $12,500—he said the measure is meant to hold officials accountable—and the bill now goes to the Senate. KCRG
- ➤ Iowa's federal judge Stephen Locher ruled Tuesday that the state could not enforce the part of its book ban law that stops school libraries from carrying books showing sex acts—granting a temporary pause for publishers, authors like John Green and Jodi Picoult, and the Iowa State Education Association who challenged the law.
