- ➤ Pancheros reopened its renovated location (965 S. Riverside Drive) on March 11 with new features designed to speed up digital orders and add extra parking for pickups. To mark its 25th anniversary, the restaurant offered $1 burritos with code DOLLARSIDE starting March 18 for up to 1,000 burritos. The Gazette
- ➤ Salsa Guy Cafe in Cedar Rapids and Wilder in Iowa City were named among 10 finalists for Iowa’s Best Burger chosen from nearly 400 restaurants by over 6,000 burger fans. A panel of judges will rate the burgers on taste, appearance and proper cooking — with the winner announced on May 1. The Gazette

- ➤ On Tuesday, Iowa City Police Officer Arcenas repeatedly struck suspect Jonathan Kim—arrested for assaulting an officer while serving an arrest warrant—and the video of the incident has divided local opinion as investigators review whether the force used was appropriate while Arcenas, who sustained lacerations to his hand and lip, remains on duty. - ➤ Daniel Kauble, a 30-year-old Iowa City man, pleaded guilty to witness tampering after using a fake social media account to mimic a UI detective and received two years probation, a 180-day suspended jail sentence, and an $855 fine—if he violates his probation he must serve six months in jail. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Iowa House lawmakers passed a bill that would let schools serve more local foods like meat, dairy and corn—this bill asks the Department of Education to apply for a waiver to skip federal nutrition rules. Some lawmakers say the change will help students while others say it makes kids guinea pigs, and the new menus will start on or after July 1. Iowa City Press-Citizen

- ➤ Iowa's Senate approved a hands-free driving bill on Tuesday that could lead to fines for texting while driving. The bill now waits for a House vote that may occur Monday, and if Gov. Reynolds signs it, drivers will get warnings until July 1 — then face $100 fines. We Are Iowa
