CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jonathan Kim, 48, is charged with interfering with official acts and assault on persons in certain occupations after he punched and kicked a police officer who tried to serve an arrest warrant on Tuesday at around 11:43 a.m. in the 1100 block of Gilbert Court — the officer sustained lacerations to his hand and lip. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Iowa House lawmakers passed a bill to create a center for intellectual freedom at the University of Iowa to study historical ideas that have shaped American society, and another measure ties tuition increases to an inflation index to control college costs. The new law will require the regents to set tuition rates by April 30 and study a tuition guarantee option—steps aimed at reshaping higher education. Iowa City Press-Citizen

- ➤ The Iowa City Landfill closed early several times this year as strong winds and dry weather led to dangerous conditions and sparked five fires, three from mishandled batteries. Jen Jordan said proper battery recycling at the free Hazardous Material Collection Facility can help prevent more fires—keeping the landfill safer for residents. KCRG
