CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Joel Munzila, a former West High paraeducator, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation for a pattern of sexual conduct with a student and faces sentencing on April 24 under a deferred judgment with a five-year no-contact order—he was dismissed from his job after the misconduct came to light. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local taxpayers have until March 31 to pay the second installment of property taxes without incurring late fees. Property taxes fund schools, law enforcement, roads, and other services — exemptions are available for eligible property owners. Iowa City Press-Citizen
- ➤ The University of Iowa will close its Division of Access, Opportunity, and Diversity on March 27 to comply with state and federal law—three employees will be reassigned while one position is eliminated. KWWL
- ➤ House lawmakers passed a bill that would require the University of Iowa medical and dentistry schools to admit at least 80% Iowa residents or students with state college ties, which is expected to cut more than $5 million in revenue over upcoming fiscal years. Lawmakers also approved a bill that will have UI and Des Moines University study if some four-year medical programs can be reduced to three years+ the report is due by Dec. 1. Iowa City Press-Citizen
