- ➤ A movie adaptation of Iowa alum Denis Johnson’s novella Train Dreams is earning Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography. - ➤ An Iowa House subcommittee approved a bill on Jan. 28 that would require state universities to consider merit and in‑state job prospects by adding the Classic Learning Test for applicants who do not meet current criteria.
