GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents earning less than $69,000 can get free, in-person tax help at Iowa City Public Library starting Jan. 31, while those making $89,000 or less can file online with IRS-certified volunteers & support for bigger refunds. Appointments will be available for scheduling on Tuesday. KCRG
- ➤ A Senate subcommittee advanced a bill (SSB 3033) that could close the Iowa City Historical Society, which houses thousands of local artifacts and has been open by appointment since the end of 2025. Advocates have raised concerns over the loss of regional records while a counter proposal seeks to keep the volunteer-led center open. KCRG
- ➤ Iowa City City Council will suspend Fieldhouse Bar and Grill’s liquor license for two weeks on Tuesday night after officials said the bar violated code by serving alcohol off the ground floor; the bar may appeal the decision to the Iowa Department of Revenue. KCRG
