Brush Cutting at Sycamore Greenway

About this event

Brush cutting? What does that have to do with litter cleanups?

The Sycamore Greenway is a stormwater management area, meaning rain- and snowfall flow into the natural areas along its trail--bringing litter along with it. Last year the entire Greenway was cleared of woody brush thanks to funding from a REAP grant, which made cleaning the litter out of the basins amazingly easy.

The brush, as it does, has grown back. So Sycamore Greenway Friends has been organizing brush cutting sessions in especially litter-prone areas to help keep it at bay. If you'd like to join us for this session near the Sycamore Apartments, read on!

Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes, gloves and clothing to protect their skin from poison ivy, thorns, ticks or other possible hazards. Long sleeves and pants are a necessity. The terrain may be rocky and uneven. A limited number of loppers are available to borrow.
